About the Summit

Moving Beyond the Scoreboard

The "Invisible Load"

Why Mental Wellness Matters

The Sports Wellness Summit 2026 (2nd Edition) is a leading African platform dedicated to advancing athlete wellbeing, mental health, inclusion, innovation, and sustainable sports development.

Under the theme “Echoes of Resilience; Forging mental wellness pathways in African
sports”
and the sub-theme “From Resilience to Action: Creating Inclusive Sports Ecosystems for Mental Wellbeing,” the summit brings together athletes, coaches, sports organizations, policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, innovators, development partners, and private sector leaders to address the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of sport in Africa.

As athletes face growing pressures related to mental health, safeguarding, gender equality, career development, injuries, substance use, and economic uncertainty, the summit provides a collaborative space to develop practical solutions, strengthen support systems, and promote holistic wellbeing.

Through high-level dialogues, expert panels, workshops, innovation showcases, and networking opportunities, participants will explore how sport can become a powerful vehicle for resilience, inclusion, health, leadership, and sustainable development.

The summit is convened by the Youth Initiative Development Programme (YIDP) in partnership with Triple I Foundation, ISSUP Kenya Chapter, and other strategic partners committed to building healthier, safer, and more inclusive sports ecosystems across Africa.

What We Aim to Achieve Together

The Sports Wellness Summit (2nd Edition) is not a traditional conference of observation; it is a platform for collective action. By bringing together the expertise of YIDP, Triple I Foundation, ISSUP, and Zenith Health Global, we aim to move the needle on African sports health through the following five strategic goals:

Promote holistic athlete wellbeing by strengthening mental health, physical health, psychosocial support, safeguarding, and access to quality care across all levels of sport.

Foster positive masculinity, gender equality, leadership, resilience, and safe sporting environments that empower boys, young men, girls, and women to thrive.

Encourage the development of integrated support structures that connect athletes to mental health services, healthcare, mentorship, safeguarding mechanisms, and career development opportunities.

Showcase technology, entrepreneurship, research, and innovative solutions that enhance athlete wellbeing, improve performance, and create sustainable pathways within the sports sector.

Catalyze cross-sector collaboration, investment, and policy reforms that place athlete welfare and wellbeing at the center of sports development across Africa.

Equip young people with the skills, confidence, mentorship, and opportunities needed to become leaders, changemakers, and positive role models within their communities and sporting environments.

Promote research, learning, and knowledge exchange that informs policies, programs, and investments aimed at improving athlete wellbeing and strengthening sports ecosystems across Africa.

Together, we are building a future where every athlete has the opportunity, support, protection, and environment needed to succeed both in sport and in life.

The Power of the Alliance
